Interval points are bolded circles that can appear on either line. Only full and complete intervals will appear on this chart. One point appears on each line at the beginning of a date range, and subsequent points only explicitly appear to coordinate with intervals where the value of the contributions made to the portfolio and/or the value of its holdings change (e.g. if a Quarterly interval is set in the Date Selector, interval points appear on the lines at the beginning of quarters after either value changed).
Even when points do not explicitly appear, as you move your cursor over the chart, interval points pop up on both lines at every interval regardless of whether or not a change occurs to keep you informed of the portfolio’s values at each interval.
As well, when you hover over the chart, a crosshair appears whenever an interval point (explicit or not) occurs. This directly links the interval points on the solid and dotted lines, illustrating the relationship between the net contributions made to a portfolio and the value of its holdings.
Along with that crosshair, a tooltip is revealed. That tooltip displays the following information relevant to that interval:
-
The date the interval begins
-
Portfolio Value – Combined value that all of a portfolio’s holdings can be sold for (the total market value)
-
Net Contributions – Value of deposits minus withdrawals made to a portfolio
-
Gain/Loss – The exact profits or losses that would occur if all the holdings in a portfolio were sold at that point (Portfolio Value minus Contributions)
Note: All values that appear in the tooltip are accurate up to two decimal places.
