Gaps

The Returns Inspector also depicts gaps – periods where a portfolio has no holdings or has no data to report (due to transaction information being unavailable) – as shaded grey areas on both the Cumulative Returns and Periodic Returns graph. The Cumulative Returns graph also uses dotted lines between bolded points going into or coming out of gap periods.

Gaps also cause the No Holdings indicator to appear on the tooltips that pop up when you hover over the graph. As multiple gaps can occur in one period on the widget, the No Holdings indicator may appear multiple times on a tooltip.

Gaps only appear in the widget’s graph when the date range set in the Date Selector includes a gap along with reported portfolio activity. If a gap takes up the entire date range set, the widget displays a message prompting you to set a new date range where a portfolio’s activity was actually reported.
