Performance Comparison
The Performance Comparison widget shows you a portfolio’s performance relative to different comparable items over a set date range and within time periods.
A portfolio’s TWRR is the compounded increase or decrease in a portfolio’s value disregarding the net contributions (deposits and withdrawals) account holders make to a portfolio, expressed as a percentage, for each period relative to the beginning of a date range.
Since TWRR disregards portfolio holders’ contributions, it effectively highlights the returns generated by the Advisor.
Note: Periods are determined by the interval you set in the Date Selector (e.g. if you set a quarterly interval, a year-long date range is split into four periods of three months).
When comparing a portfolio’s performance to the performance of comparable items, this method allows you to see whether an Advisor has kept a portfolio on par with the market’s performance and the respective investors’ goals.
Setting a Date Range & Periods
The Performance Comparison widget requires you to set a date range using options at the top of the widget that work in conjunction with the To Date set in the Date Selector. The option you select in the widget will take the place of the From date set in the Date Selector to create a date range specific to this widget (e.g. if you click the 3 months option in the widget, the widget displays a portfolio’s performance from a date exactly 3 months prior to your set To Date until your To Date).
Note: The Date Selector, near the top of the page, is where you set the dates and interval that the widgets in each Workspace and the tools on other pages in the app operate around.
Aside from a few specific lengths of time (3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years and 10 years), which can act as the From date in the range, the widget also includes the following date range options:
Year to Date (YTD) – The beginning of the year corresponding with the To date until the To Date
Inception – Since the date the account became active (started making investments) until the To Date
Selected From-To – Within the date range set in the Date Selector
Note: When you sign in to Client Portal the 1 year option is set at the top of the widget by default. As you view different accounts, the date range option you set in the widget remains.
The widget also requires you to set periods. Periods are set using the interval option in the Date Selector (i.e. if you set a quarterly interval in the Date Selector, a year-long date range in the widget will be split into four periods of three months).
