After you set comparable items, the widget compares the portfolio’s performance and the selected items’ performance on two kinds of graphs (see below). You can set the widget to display either graph using the drop-down Chart options menu that appears when you click the third arrow from the right at the top of the widget.
The horizontal axis for these graphs measures the time passed. That time is split into intervals (Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annually, Annually, etc.) to accommodate the date range set in the Date Selector. The vertical axis measures how the values of a portfolio and comparable items have grown as a percentage of each item’s value at the beginning of the date range.
Cumulative Graph
The Cumulative graph is a line graph that displays a portfolio’s performance over the entire date range set using a coloured line. It also displays the performance of the selected comparable items during the same date range, using different coloured lines that match how an item is underscored in the Comparison menu.
The graph also includes interval points, white circles on each line, indicating every period in the date range. When you hover over an interval point, that point and the corresponding interval points on other lines are highlighted and a tooltip appears. That tooltip displays the following:
-
A legend explaining which item each coloured line represents
-
Portfolio’s performance at the end of a period, since “From” date set in the widget
-
Comparable items’ performance at the end of a period, since “From” date set in the widget
-
Start and end date of the period that the point represents
Periodic Graph
The Periodic graph is a bar graph that displays a portfolio’s performance during each period of a date range using a coloured bar. It also displays the performance of the selected comparable items during each period using different coloured bars that match how an item is underscored in the Comparison menu.
When you hover over a set of bars, a tooltip is revealed. The tooltip displays the following:
-
A legend explaining which item each coloured bar represents
-
Portfolio’s performance at the end of a period, since From date set in the widget
-
Comparable items’ performance at the end of a period, since From date set in the widget
-
Start and end date of the period relevant to the performance that set of bars represents
Note: Performance values shown on tooltips are percentages, accurate up to two decimal places.
When you hover over any item in a Comparison menu, the line or bar that represents that item will be emphasized on either graph you are viewing and other items will be greyed out.
