The Holdings widget allows you to display the holdings in an account’s portfolio in different groups. You can select any grouping option in the drop-down Grouping menu that appears when you click the left-most arrow at the top of the widget.
These grouping options include:
-
Asset Class – Groups holdings in a portfolio into classes defined by the account holder’s Advisor (e.g. Equities, Cash and Cash Equivalents, and Fixed Income)
-
Industry – Groups holdings based on what economic sector they belong to, as defined by the account holder’s Advisor (e.g. Energy, Industrials, or Telecommunications)
-
Currency – Groups holdings based on the currency used to sell the security, either to or by the portfolio holder (e.g. securities sold to the portfolio holder in CAD will all be grouped together)
Using these grouping options allows you to see how the holdings in an account’s portfolio are distributed across different financial classes. When you sign in to Client Portal, the Holdings widget automatically groups holdings by Asset Class. As you view different accounts the option you set in the Grouping menu does not change.
When holdings are grouped, a total position for all holdings in a group is listed underneath each group (see Figure 2).
The total position for each group includes the following values:
-
Book Value – The total cost of every holding in that group
-
Total Market Value (Total MV) – Combined value of all holdings in a group based on the representative price listed for each holding (described above) at the As of Date set
-
Accrued – Payments owed to the account holder accumulated on a holding (e.g. interest and coupon payments for fixed income or dividends for equities)
-
Unrealized Gains/Losses (UNREALIZED G/L) – Potential profits/losses that would occur if all units of the holdings in a group were sold at the As of Date set
-
Gains/Losses Graph (G/L Graph) – A meter representing the unrealized gains/losses (red represents a potential loss, green represents a potential gain)
-
Percentage Weight – What percentage of the portfolio all holdings in a group make up
